About This Quote

In this quote from Breaking Dawn, we can see that Bella can hardly believe that these vampires are as strong as she was during the Civil War. In the first paragraph of this chapter, we learn that Bella fought in the Civil War as a soldier for the Confederacy. In the second, she meets a vampire who claims to have been a soldier in that war. How does he know? The only explanation is that he must have been a soldier for the North.

Here, he is showing Bella his battle scars. Is there any conflict between this and the canon of the story? No, because if Jasper was a soldier for the North, why would he have scars from battles fought for the South? This is just one of many examples where we see how conflict can be introduced into dialogue by including words and phrases from multiple stories.
